Customizable Large Straightening Machine

The new generation of G+K's large plate straightening machines is characterized by a very compact yet generously dimensioned design. A massive steel composite frame, reinforced with four tension rods, absorbs all applied forces. The straightening of the metal plate is achieved by bending the material up and down between a combination of three straightening rollers, with decreasing bending amplitudes, meaning that the straightening bench increases towards the exit.

The straightening roller system consists of four upper and three lower straightening rollers. Each roller is driven by a high-performance planetary gearbox, which ensures a design with minimal space requirements and high energy efficiency due to the individual drive. The rollers are extremely well stabilized on support roller cascades and are held in cassettes that are individually adjustable in height. The cassettes are held in position by solid wedge blocks and are tensioned against the straightening machine frame to prevent deformation from the straightening material. Lateral tensioning of the straightening cassettes is achieved via hydraulic cylinders.

The cassette design allows for a relatively extremely quick exchange of straightening rollers, for example, for cleaning or grinding operations. The metal plate passes through the machine initially in the intended direction, then in the opposite direction, and possibly again in the original direction. Therefore, the straightening system must be able to adjust its inclination within seconds with each change in direction.

The concept of the straightening machine itself has been proven over decades and is adapted to a wide range of plate dimensions and material qualities. These robustly built straightening machines achieve fast and high-quality results while supporting extremely short setup times.

System for Straightening Titanium Plates

A new production line with a G+K straightening machine has been inaugurated at a production plant of VSMPO, a manufacturer of titanium semi-finished products. The system is ideal for straightening titanium plates.

Titanium is particularly valued for its low density, high strength, and excellent corrosion resistance. Pure titanium can achieve a tensile strength of up to 740 N/mm², while an alloy like LT 33, which contains aluminum, vanadium, and tin, can reach up to 1,200 N/mm².
